SPCA Seeks Help For Kitten Injured In Car Engine: VIDEO

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY — The SPCA of Westchester knew they had a tough trauma case on their hands when an 8-week-old kitten rescued from a hot car engine was brought into the Veterinary Clinic in Briarcliff Manor.

"Thank goodness a Good Samaritan heard her cries before it was too late," SPCA officials said Wednesday in an eblast.

Like many animals, the kitten they've named Clementine had sought the protection of a car engine to keep her safe and warm. She curled up under a hood in White Plains for security, not realizing the extreme danger — and sustained severe injuries when the car was turned on.

Clementine was brought in Monday with 2nd-degree burns over a third of her body, a crushed leg, and a cut on her back so deep the vets had to put a drain in it.

"Our team knew the moment they met her that she was a fighter," SPCA officials said. "Even with her ears singed and burned, Clementine leaned into our veterinarian for a head scratch and starting purring as they began her examination."

She needs constant bandage changes to keep her wounds clean and to lower her risk of infection. Later, Clementine will likely need surgery on her leg to ensure her fracture heals.

Any gift, big or small, truly makes a difference in the care the SPCA of Westchester can give not just for Clementine but for many other homeless, abused, and abandoned animals, officials said.
