Spring Break
This week, lots of schools are enjoying Spring Break. And we finally seem to be getting a break from winter. It's the perfect time to dust off the patio furniture, clean off the grill, and get together with family and friends. The Pleasantville Farmers Market has seasonal foods to make all of your get-togethers extra special including great meats, crisp apples, winter-grown mesclun, and many other farm fresh offerings. And if you happen to be observing Passover this week check out some of the highlights below.
Mrs. Rogovin's Hot! Hot! Hot! Horseradish
Horseradish has roots. Prized for 3000 years for its medicinal and gastronomic qualities, today approximately 6 million gallons of prepared horseradish are produced annually in the U.S. If you've ever considered making horseradish yourself pick up some fresh horseradish and beets from Newgate Farms or Madura Farms, and try this week's highlighted recipe by Mrs. Rogovin. Want a fiery preview? We'll have samples available near the Market entrance all morning!

Don't Want To Horse Around?
With making your own horseradish...
Well, Pickle Licious has a certified Kosher kitchen and they will bring their own fresh Beet Horseradish: 8 oz. container for $3.00, 16 oz. for $5.00, $32 oz.(!) for $8.00.
Gluten-free by Spoonful
Spoonful of Sugar Bake Shop items are not certified Kosher but they are grain-free, dairy-free, and free of chemical leavening. Spoonful will have lemon cakes, sponge cakes, cookies, rainbow cookies, and other traditional treats. They will also have a number of Easter items such as Easter Egg Bread.
Duck Fat
Hudson Valley Duck Farm brings to market rendered duck fat. With a higher smoke point, and a rich complex flavor, duck fat is considered essential in many cuisines (ie: ever tried it in your matzah balls?).
Spring Flowers For The Table
Simply Planted Greenhouses (formerly Eden Farms) will return tomorrow with beautiful combinations of cold tolerant annuals. They'll have plantings in decorative baskets for the dining room table, or in pots for planting.
Bobolink's Emmer Wheat Matzoh
Low yield and not grown on a wide scale, Emmer wheat is very special to find. Genetically akin to wheat found in King Tut's tomb, this ancient grain was grown in the Fertile Crescent 10,000 years ago. It is believed to be the wheat used by the Isrealites at the time of Exodus. Due to Passover, and the special nature of Bobolink's Emmer Wheat Matzoh, arrive early to get yours before supplies run out.
Business Supporters Program
Fundraising provides an important contribution to the Market's operating funds, ensuring it can continue to showcase a diverse and unique selection of farm fresh, regional products for Village residents. Support of the Market by area businesses is gratefully acknowledged through our Business Supporter Program. Supporters are listed on our Kiosk at the Market, and on our website with live links. Please visit the Supporters page to see our current Business Supporters, consider supporting them with your patronage, and use the email link there to send a message if you would like to have your business join this program as well.
