Spring by name is here, but our pig probably has a case of wishful thinking with his sunglasses (which on many farms are still needed for sun glare off slowly receding snow). A spring that feels here to stay may arrive soon, until then we're left to anticipate the season to come.
While we wait, lets cheer the Pleasantville Farmers Market's second successful indoor season. The Market continues to sustain us with fresh, abundant food. And shopper support continues to sustain regional farms and many food artisans who source from them. Area residents, nearly 1000 each week, have kept our Village as a community hub through the winter. We've all been nourished by the pleasure of seeing one another through the cold months. Soon nature will awaken and surprise us with fiddleheads, early asparagus, and fragrant lilacs in bloom. And of course when those arrive, our farmers will make sure we are the first to know!
Highlighted Recipe:
Perfect Roasting Chicken
Our vendor Yellow Bell Farm has provided a classic (and easy) recipe for the Perfect Roasting Chicken. Many of the ingredients listed are available at the Market. Both Yellow Bell Farm and Cowberry Crossing Farm have roasting chickens. You may have olive oil from Pure Mountain Olive Oil, and sea salt and pepper from Spice Revolution. Fresh rosemary is available at Madura Farms. Garlic, and root vegetables such as parsnips, carrots, rutabagas, turnips, potatoes and onions are available though our produce farms: Madura Farms, Newgate Farms, and Cowberry Crossing Farm (Little Seed Gardens will return in May). Finally, ask Yellow Bell Farm for their tip on making a chicken broth with leftovers from this recipe.

Salad With Your Meal Tonight?
Kazuhiro Hidaka of Krazy for Kazu's visits tomorrow. His ginger dressing has caused mesclun sales to surge in the year he has been with the Market. With plenty of delicious greens arriving don't forget to check the refrigerator to see if you're out of dressing. In addition to dressings and sauces Kazu also produces a wonderfully useful and traditional Dashi broth, from which many recipes can proceed (Beef Udon Noodle Soup being just one).
What Vendors Are In Tomorrow?

Handspun Yarns
Maupston Design Studio will visit Pleasantville Farmers Market tomorrow with skeins of beautiful yarns. Fiber artist Anna Upston will bring handspun yarns of her own design, and some millspun yarns from local NYS farms. You can review yarns by Maupston Designs Studio by clicking here, or stop by to speak with Anna as she spins yarn at the wheel tomorrow.
"Vårfrudagen"
That's right, next Tuesday is "Vårfrudagen" (Waffle Day) in Sweden. Now whose idea was it to have just ONE official day for waffles? Of course, every Saturday is waffle day in Pleasantville, thanks to Pika's Farm Table. And I'm sure Pika can offer some insight as to why Belgium waffles are the most sought after, even in Sweden...
Extra Visits For Healing Home Foods
For a period of time Little Seed Gardens will be absent, while their indoor crops get up to speed. We'll note in our newsletter when they are returning. We are pleased to be able to use the extra space to have Healing Home Foods visit more (weekly for the remainder of March, and for all of April). Based on customer response, we are sure customers will be pleased too!
Hudson Valley Restaurant Week: last weekend

Market Opens Every Saturday At 9:00am
Please note that our Indoor Market is open from 9am to 1pm. We thank you in advance for honoring those hours as our vendors need time to prepare for your arrival.
Next Week: First Spring Visit By Simply Planted:
Simply Planted (formerly known as Eden Farms Greenhouses) will make their first visit of the season with beautiful combinations of cold tolerant plantings (in baskets, pots, or inserts for transplanting).
