Students are the Stars at Bedford Road School’s Little Theater
Elementary students in the Pleasantville Schools perform on a stage that's just the right size
The theater season began at Pleasantville’s Bedford Road School this week with Laura Twomey’s fourth-grade class singing and dancing into the audience’s hearts.
Popular songs like “Count on Me” and “Stand by Me,” which emphasize goodwill and resilience, got members of the audience swaying and tapping their feet.
“The class performances are a chance for all students in grades 1-4 to participate in the performing arts,” Principal Rachel Hunger said. “They are tied to social emotional themes such as kindness or friendship to help reinforce the learning the students are doing with our SEL specialists Mary Ann Flatley, our psychology team, our teachers and Pleasantville STRONG.”

This is a come-back season for the Little Theater performances, which were paused for the pandemic and restarted last year with scaled-down, socially distant versions. The Little Theater, which gives elementary students the chance to perform on a stage that is just their size, is only one of the many unique opportunities that the Pleasantville Union Free School District offers.
“Through rehearsing with their classmates, students form bonds, gain confidence, and learn to collaborate towards a common goal,” Hunger said. “We look forward to having our families join us in the Little Theater throughout the year.”
