EIGHT YEARS AS
BEST OF WESTCHESTER!

The Pleasantville Farmers Market has been voted Best Of Westchester by the readers of Westchester Magazine for an 8th year in a row (2014 - 2021)! The most important aspect in our run as the Best has been the teamwork of all involved. Our farmers and food artisans, our shoppers, Pleasantville's municipal leaders and staff, the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce, our Sponsors and Supporters, and our managers and volunteers -- all work in concert to ensure this complex event succeeds in appearing simple each week. Thanks for contributing as a shopper, enabling the Market to provide its best.

Phelps Health Tip:
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "Based on some estimates, vegetables supply over 50% of vitamins C and A, and much of our B6, magnesium, niacin, thiamin, and iron. Eating a variety of seasonal plant foods, which supply these and many more nutrients, can help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease".

Market Intern Program
The Market is accepting applications from area High School students for the Intern Program. For information inquire at the Manager's Table or email info@pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org.

Hi Beth Seeley!
Beth Seeley, (Assistant Director) and Dianne Eggert (Executive Director) run the Farmers Market Federation of NY, which supports and promotes the viability of farmers markets in our state. Beth was visiting several member farmers markets last Saturday, including Pleasantville. The Farmers Market Federation was a tremendous resource for guidance and networking for the hundreds of NY markets and producers that coped with COVID-19 last year. Beth, thanks for stopping by, and for all the hard work you and your team contribute on behalf of markets!

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

To celebrate their 10 year anniversary Spice Revolution is highlighting "30 new spices in 30 days" -- all July. This week they continue to roll out new spices by adding a series of salt free blends including Cajun gumbo, garlic chili, classic Italian, sichimi Togarashi and more. "New Salt free" has its own spot in their PFM-O store.

Brian Gajeski notes that Gajeski Produce will have cherry and Beefsteak tomatoes, fresh corn, blueberries, raspberries and black raspberries too.

Sure Maine has fresh seafood, and the Cape too. If you're taking a beating looking at others Facebook vacation shots and have a week of work ahead, remember that Pura Vida Fisheries offers just-caught, fresh seafood every week to the Market. Enjoy grilling fish, scallops, clams, oysters -- whatever you need to have a mini-vacation in the backyard.

Kiernan Farms has a 1/2 price SALE on sirloin tip steaks, this week at $10.75/lb (reg. $21.50/lb). They have discounted their pork chops too, to $12.75/lb (reg. $14.75/lb). And if you buy 5 one pound packages of ground beef at $11.75/lb, get $10.00 off the total.

Check out Mead Orchards and Wright's Farm for fresh seasonal fruits. Blueberries and cherries are at peak and Mead Orchards reports they will have plums too.

Kyle Nisonger or Maple View Farm says, "Our favorite salad this time of year on the farm is a Greek one – cucumber, tomatoes, fresh garlic and onions, oregano, and some feta from Edgwick Farm. You can get all of these at our stand… and make a very short walk across the Market for the feta".

In addition to their line of cheeses, Chaseholm Farm Creamery has 1/2 gallons of their un-homogenized, 100% grass based milk, and quarts of their 100% grass based yogurt. These milk products are 25% richer in butterfat than what you find in the store -- super rich and delicious!

Whitecliff Vineyards is visiting Saturday and celebrating the return of sampling at the Market by offering free tastes of their high quality champagne method wines. Let's toast the return towards normal!

In 2020 Bombay Chutney Company updated banners, their business name and their offerings. Stop by to review four simmer sauces they developed so you can easily create flavorful meals. Check out all their items this week in PFM-O.

SallyeAnder is in Saturday with their line of soaps and balms.

Our farms have basil, and early tomatoes - perfect for enjoying with Trotta Food's fresh mozzarella.

Wildcraft Farms will be in with heirloom popcorn (popped and unpopped), as well as their full line of heirloom grains, milled fresh at the farm.

Gajeski Produce and Dobler Farms each have early season corn.

Red Barn Bakery will be in with 100% organic, large and small savory tarts. Chose from whole wheat pepper crust, zucchini leek goat cheese, shitaki crimini leek goat cheese, and kale tomato leek. Other combos with cheddar cheese as well.

NEXT SATURDAY:
BUY TWO -- DONATE ONE

Next Saturday, 7/24 the Market will have its first "buy two, donate one" Food Donation Day of the season. Highlighting the generous, weekly donations our farmers make to help eradicate food insecurity in Westchester, this event provides you the opportunity to buy extra items of fruit, veggies or bread so you can donate too. Representatives will be on hand from the Pleasantville Community Garden (their volunteers collect vendor donations every week) and from Hillside Food Outreach. Please add your donation to this special cause on 7/24.

Pango!
The Village of Pleasantville has introduced a smartphone app as an option to pay for all metered and pay station parking in Pleasantville. Download the free PANGO app for iPhone or Android devices, and follow the prompts to set up an account and method of payment. Parking meters have stickers (and QR codes) that indicate the parking zone—and parking lots have signs posted with zone numbers. There is a 16% service fee charged by Pango. The app will deliver a reminder message five minutes before time expires, and (in most locations) time can be extended via the app.
