
Sure, summer is wrapping up, but for home cooks these can be some of the best weeks of the year. A bumper crop of summer's colors and flavors are expected Saturday at the Pleasantville Farmers Market. Cool evenings have slowed, but not stopped the supply tomatoes and peppers, which remain plentiful. Make one last perfect heirloom tomato salad, or grill a batch of gorgeous peppers. Enjoy these while you can as fall's cool weather will soon bring the parade of tomatoes and peppers to a close, setting the stage for new menu choices that utilize fall produce, fruits and meats.
The Market has some great programming this Saturday too. For our Kids Event Greg Nemec will help kids create their own newsprint shape collages (9:30-11:00). Our Music Series performance is by the Shovel Ready String Band (10:00-12:00). We'll have the community organization Pleasantville STRONG in to highlight their programs (8:30-12:30). Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health will visit to highlight their new Cancer Institute (8:30-12:30). And this Saturday is the first day you can pre-register for the upcoming Phelps Annual Apple Pie Contest, held this year on 10/14 (rain date 10/21). Soon we'll be focused squarely upon apples, but this week Wright's Farm is highlighting winter squash. Shoppers can enjoy many varieties including spaghetti squash, acorn squash, butternut squash, delicata squash and sweet dumpling squash. They also note they will have Concord grapes.

Campanelli's Poultry Farm and Wright's Farm do, and they're located toward the north of the marketplace. Yellow Bell Farm provides fresh eggs and is located near the south entrance to the Market. And Cowberry Crossing Farm carries a small supply of eggs produced on their Certified Organic and Biodynamic farm.
Kriemhild Dairy Farms
Kriemhild Dairy Farms is at Pleasantville Saturday with a full line of Kriemhild Meadow Butter and Creme Fraiche as well as the Trimona Bulgarian Yogurt. Their 8 oz tubs of Meadow Butter make a great holiday gift.

Pleasantville Community Garden
Milestone Reached Last Week
As of their deliveries last Saturday, after the Pleasantville Farmers Market pick-up of foods donated by farmers and shoppers, Pleasantville Community Garden has now donated 40,288 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need in our local communities. That is 20 tons of nutritious food! The Market congratulates all partners and volunteers of the Garden on this accomplishment, and thanks Market vendors and shoppers who support their efforts with donations. If you want to add a food donation to those made by our farmers to help eradicate food insecurity in Westchester, the Market maintains a collection bin at the Manager's Tent.

How Do We Feed the World?
