Tarrytown Water Main Break Repaired

Briarcliff Manor residents were previously asked to conserve water.

A Friday morning water break has been repaired and the water supply will be returning to normal levels soon, said Sleepy Hollow Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio Sunday morning.

This follows a weekend of alerts urging residents of Sleepy Hollow to restrict usage only to necessity. (Briarcliff Manor and Tarrytown residents were told to conserve water.)

The damaged pipe was a 30-inch diameter water main that feeds all three pump stations (Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown and Briarcliff Manor), Giaccio explained. Since all three communities were affected, he said each village couldn't provide each other with water as is sometimes the case.

"Although, Briarcliff, who had more water in reserve, did help us as long as they could," he said.

Until repairs were made, Sleepy Hollow had no water source which is the reason for the drastic measures.

However, Giaccio reported, the villages are now back on line and the reservoir is nearing capacity. Sleepy Hollow planned to be lifting restrictions soon, but until then, if you observe brown water, let it run at the tap until it goes clear.

The situation was considered severe, but now it's down to "mild," said Giaccio.
