This Saturday get a taste of fall at the Pleasantville Farmers Market -- the autumn harvest will be piled high. Gather ingredients for warming dishes such as roasted meats and root vegetables, creamy fall soups, apple pies or cobblers. Steam a pot of apples to stock up on homemade apple sauce. Get energized with superfoods such as kale and cauliflower. And shop for unique items from visiting Manor Sangria and Merchant's Daughter Ciderworks. As these cooler weeks arrive please stay resolute in your support of your farmers and food artisans. They are a reliable food system supporting regional family farms, and these producers arrive with the foods you love each week.

YEAR-ROUND MARKET

The Pleasantville Farmers Market will be at Memorial Plaza again this winter. As part of the largest, weekly, year-round farmers market in Westchester, our farmers and food artisans provide fresh seafood, crisp greens, hardy vegetables, cheeses, meats, apples, root crops and numerous other delicious foods every week. For opening day of the winter season December 3, the Market shifts to a "preorder & pickup" model with all vendors and all products present in Pleasantville Farmers Market Online. Place orders online, pay with a single click, then enjoy quick, contactless pickup on Saturday at the vendors you preordered from. December through March the Market's winter hours are 9:00am - 11:30am. Though many vendors have some items for spontaneous walk-up purchase, the key to the winter market season succeeding is the speed and convenience of preordering. Collecting preorders is efficient for shoppers, lessening time in the cold. Focusing on delivering preorders enables vendors to work a shorter market day, keep a smaller staff and avoid the effort of displaying inventory that might freeze. This winter support your producers by using PFM-O to keep connected with your favorite foods, year-round.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

At the Market's Zero Waste Station volunteers help shoppers sort items into three bins (compostable food scraps, recyclable items, and trash). The station decreases the amount of trash produced by the Market - a long sought goal!

This program was started by a Girl Scout for her gold award. Now it's our community’s job to keep it going, and we hope you will consider joining our volunteer team. Volunteers receive community service hours. Morning shifts are from 8:20-10:45am, and afternoon shifts take place 10:45-1:10pm.

To begin volunteering please email Coordinator Jadyn Serebin at jadyn@serebin.com. Thanks!

Saturday, October 15, Pleasantville Farmers Market's Tie-Dye T-shirt Day showed what our volunteer and community programs are all about - lots of teamwork, and lots of fun! Our Interns and adult volunteers tied shirts and trained at tie-dye methods leading up to Saturday. Then they crewed a colorful morning assisting over 60 children in 90 minutes with the process of making their own custom shirt. Thanks to all our volunteers and families that participated.

Also, thanks to artist Jessica Manfro for visiting with her wildly popular Giant Pumpkin Carving Demo. Free raffles were taken up by shoppers and the O'Donovan family won the opportunity to give the 134lb pumpkin a new home, a name (Price Pumpkin), and a nice hat!
