Taste Of Fall

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturdays, 8:30am - 1:00pm

After a bit of summer heat this week, Saturday will offer a taste of fall at the Pleasantville Farmers Market. The autumn harvest will be piled high! Gather ingredients for warming dishes such as roasted meats and root vegetables, creamy fall soups, apple pies or cobblers. Steam a pot of apples to stock up on homemade apple sauce. Get energized with superfoods such as kale and cauliflower. Shop from visiting Fjord Vineyards and Cooper's Daughter Spirits. As we move deeper into fall please stay resolute in your support of your farmers and food artisans. They represent a great investment: a reliable food system of regional family farms, arriving weekly with the foods you love.

WHO'S IN THIS WEEK?

View our Map of the Market to see where all vendors visiting this Saturday will be located in the marketplace.

This week we have a surprise (again!):
Simply Planted Greenhouses
will be in with colorful mums (potted and hanging), and baskets with attractive combos of fall annuals for a second and final week on 10/7. Their tent will be located on the grass near the Market's main entrance.
Note: The Peanut Principle will be absent this week. And after many years with us, Margery of Conant Valley Jams has retired -- we wish her well! Stop by Wright's Farm to learn about the diverse preserves they offer.

In addition to Weekly vendors, the following Rotation vendors will also be in this Saturday:

  • 3×3 Kitchen Provisions
  • Cooper’s Daughter Spirits
  • Bombay Chutney Company
  • Fjord Vineyards
  • Noble Pies
  • Simply Planted Greenhouses
  • Strudel House

Lead Sponsor Northwell Health Tip:
"The fewer the ingredients, the more healthful the food. Great advice when it comes to purchasing fresh, seasonal food from regional farms. Tomatoes, peppers, carrots, apples, leafy greens all just have one ingredient: themselves!" Brought to you by Northern Westchester and Phelps, your local Northwell hospitals.

Market Intern Program
The Market is accepting applications from area students, grades 8 - 12, for the our fall Intern Program. For information email info@pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org.

The Zero Waste Composting Station is seeking youth volunteers (shifts are valid for community service hours). The composting station helps decrease the amount of trash produced by the Market. To assist a teen to volunteer CLICK HERE and add their name to whichever weekends they can volunteer. If you have any questions you can contact our Zero Waste Station Coordinator Jadyn Serebin at jadyn@serebin.com.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Our farms have a really nice selection of flavorful herbs at this time of year. A good example: Kyle of Maple View Farm says this Saturday he'll have red and green shiso, sage, tarragon, sorrel, chives, lavender, rosemary, lemon balm, maybe the last of the basil, and he'll have what he calls "the staples" of parsley, cilantro, and dill. Unsure how to use some of these options? Speak with Kyle and his team, they have great suggestions on how to use all their items.

Simply Planted Greenhouses will be in one final week with colorful mums (potted and hanging), and baskets with attractive combos of fall annuals. There tent will be located on the grass near the Market's main entrance.

It's soup season! Every week both Pika's Farm Table and Trotta's Food arrive with a diverse selection of soups. Stop by each so you know your options. They're ready to help you enjoy an easy night in the kitchen and a great meal.

Nina White of Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse is alerting us that a seasonal treat is in: Baudolino cured in Blaufrankish wine must. Trying some really is a must!

Cooper's Daughter Spirits Pumpkin Spice Vodka is back in season! This vodka is steeped with Organic pie pumpkins from Common Hands Farm, local maple syrup from Ghent, NY, Organic spices and Madagascar vanilla bean. Yum!

3x3 Kitchen Provisions now offers their Sourdough XL loaf -- twice the size of their regular loaf and with a Pullman shape for easy sandwich slicing. Among their other offerings Saturday they'll also have apple pies, lavender financiers, ginger snaps, and a chestnut & apple soup tasting for Thanksgiving pre-orders.

Woven Stars Farm is highlighting their chicken bone broth, served by the cup in the Market or frozen in quarts to take home.

With fall's arrival, Edgwick Farm has new seasonal pairings with its Canterbury soft goat cheese. The sweet pairing is their goat cheese mixed with a fresh, pumpkin compote, a touch of honey and pumpkin pie spices for Pumpkin Spice Canterbury -- this creamy and tangy delicacy is like the best pumpkin cheesecake you've ever had. The savory pairing is their goat cheese layered with the smoky sweetness of roasted red pepper pesto.

Both our orchards have a variety of squash now, and they're picking fresh, fall apples. For our Apple Tasting last week Wright's Farm highlighted Cortlands, Gala, and Honeycrisp; Mead Orchards offered Snap Dragon, Fuji, Zestar, and Macoun. Shop for these and other varieties at their booths.

Fjord Vineyards will make their visit for October this week!

Teagevity is ready to serve shoppers in our cooler fall markets -- they start their line of special fall hot teas, served by the cup this Saturday including Preston's Pumpkin Chai, Dirty Chai, and Apple Cider Ginger tea with Cinnamon. They also have their grab and go options of cold "Tea2go" in Hibiscus Pineapple, Blood Orange & Hibiscus, Strawberry Fields, Raspberry Summer Lemon, and Green Tea & Lemongrass.

In celebration of the official arrival of autumn, Spice Revolution is featuring favorites for apple pie contest baking. Featured spices include ginger powder, Saigon cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon, secret cinnamon, whole nutmeg and fresh Tahitian Vanilla Beans.

Mae, Claudia, and Willy of Little Seed Garden were talking cabbages last Saturday. Willy was holding a best-ever, perfectly round cabbage -- clarifying that while certainly a beauty, it was extra special as a successful outcome of their innovative cover crop system which enabled the cabbage to grow up through crimped and rolled winter rye, which allows the farm to enhance soil health while avoiding the plastic mulch conventionally used. Farms like CO Little Seed Gardens are special for what, and HOW, they grow their foods.
