CANCELED: Tappan Zee Bridge Team in Mount Pleasant

The New York State Thruway Authority said the meeting has been canceled by The Town of Mount Pleasant, but will be rescheduled in the future.

Update: The Tappan Zee Bridge proposal received approval from the Federal Highway Administration today.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's Tappan Zee Bridge team will continue its visits to local muncipalities by stopping by the Mount Pleasant Town Board meeting tonight at 8 p.m.

"The team will present the new Tappan Zee Bridge project and hold a question and answer session," according to an announcement from the town.

Recently, the team stopped by Tarrytown, where they said they are whittling down the bridge proposals to a final three, which will be made public shortly.

The funding for the new bridge, as well as its tolls and whether or not it will carry public transportation, have all been areas of controversy as officials attempt to draft a plan. 

A few months ago, Cuomo signed a new request for federal funding after the project lost in the first round. The state is asking for 2.9 billion, the maximum allowed per project. The bids have arrived, all 750,000 pages of them in 70 boxes, and they are under the final stages of review for the “state-of-the-art, transit-ready” eight-lane, two-span bridge.
