Underdog to Wonderdog: Mutt Saved by SPCA to Lead Dog Walk

So malnourished 2 months ago she could barely walk, Skinny Marie is this year's mascot for the shelter's annual fundraiser.

The mascot for this years Dog Walk and Pet Fair, the largest pet-related event in Westchester County, is a little mutt with the nickname of Skinny Marie.

She came to the SPCA of Westchester as a stray—so underweight, dehydrated and malnourished that she could barely walk.

“Luckily, we were able to get her healthy and back on her feet after about two months of special care,” said Lisa Bonanno-Spence, the SPCA’s development manager.

A terrier mix, Marie is now living with a foster family. And on May 2, she’ll be leading the walk at FDR Park in Yorktown.

The family-and dog-friendly event draws hundreds of families and dog owners annually. It is the SPCA of Westchester’s largest fundraiser of the year.
