MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — Lakeview Avenue is closed between Commerce Street and Bradhurst Avenue — Route 100 — because the road has been undermined, town highway officials said.

"Unfortunately the time frame for this road closure is unknown at this time and it will remain in effect until further notice. We ask that you please plan to use alternate routes during this time," they said in a notice to residents.

Lakeview, which goes through the cemetery, is — was— often used as a shortcut by commuters and residents to drive between the Bronx River Parkway, the Sprain Brook Parkway and the Routes 100 north of I-287.

Metro-North Railroad's most deadly crash came in 2015 when a driver apparently trying to use the Lakeview route to avoid a traffic jam stopped on the tracks at Commerce Street.
