What’s Happening in the Village of Pleasantville Update – January 2022

1. Crossing Guard Positions Available: The Village is accepting applications for School Crossing Guard positions at a pay rate of $22.50 per hour. The hours are Mon.-Fri. from 7:15am to 9:00am (2.75 hours a day); or, Mon. – Fri. from 7:15am to 9:00am and 2:30pm to 3:45pm (3 hours a day). Work will be crossing children in route to school and after school dismissal. Three posts require traffic control while the others require minimal control for the crossing of pedestrians. Guards call the Police Desk before each post to report for duty Monday – Friday AM and PM. Saturday Post available for 2.5 hours at the Pleasantville Farmer’s Market if you choose. Rate of pay will be $22.50 for this post as well. Applicants please email your resume to policechief@pleasantville-ny.gov.

2. Manville Road Pedestrian Safety Project: Bids for the project to improve pedestrian safety on Manville road from Memorial Plaza to Tompkins Avenue were received in January, and the low bid came in below cost estimates. The project is estimated to cost approximately $2.5 million, of which $1.6 million would be reimbursed to the Village through a federal grant. Work is expected to begin in the spring with more information on the timeline expected once the contractor has been engaged. Material availability may affect the project’s timeline. Updates will be provided in the coming weeks. 

3. Pool Update: The Village’s consulting engineer, Rimkunas Engineering (www.rimkunasengineering.com), is developing construction documents for the new pool design that will be submitted to the Department of Health for review and approval. Based on feedback from the community through the pool task force, public forums and a comprehensive survey, a schematic design was selected. The initial project schedule is to start construction in the Fall of 2022.

4. Nannahagan Pond Flood Remediation Analysis: The Village engaged an engineer to identify way to remediate flooding from the Nannahagan Pond, which has over-topped the dam and damaged the pool twice in the past four years. The two leading options would increase drainage capacity by building a second culvert between the dam and the brook below the parking lot. Currently, there is a culvert that runs under the pool house. This work would roughly double the current capacity. The various options carry costs from $610,000  to $1.1 million. 5. Recycling App: The Village of Pleasantville and Sustainable Westchester launched a mobile app, Recycle Right Westchester, to make it easier for residents to stay connected about waste and recycling collection programs. In the mobile app, you’ll find the garbage, recycling, and special pickup collection schedule specific to your house address.  The mobile app can also remind you of your collection day, so you’ll never forget again! Residents can download the mobile app for Apple or Android by searching “Recycle Right Westchester.” If you don’t have a smartphone, there is a website where you can search your home address in the My Schedule tool: https://www.pleasantville-ny.gov/home/pages/sanitation-schedule-look

6. New Parking Rules in Memorial Plaza: At present, parking spaces on the train side of the median have been restricted to permit holders on weekdays from 6 am to 3 pm. Based on changing parking demand, the new rule the lot will be reserved for permit holders on weekdays from 6 am – 10 am. After 10 am on weekdays – and Saturday from 8 am – 6 pm – metered parking will be available to anyone. New pay stations will be installed, and people can pay by phone via the Pango mobile app. When we receive and install the pay stations, we will publicize the new rules before they are implemented.

7. Winter parking regulations are in effect as of December 1: Be reminded that winter parking regulations are in effect until April 1. Vehicles cannot be parked for more than ½ hour on any street between 1:00 and 7:00 am.

8. South End of Memorial Plaza: Work in Memorial Plaza between Bedford Road and the gazebo is ongoing. The stairs to the gazebo will soon be relocated to align with the eventual crosswalk, new Bee-Line bus stop and the pedestrian walkway that will link Cooley Street and Memorial Plaza. 9.Development Update: 

• 70 Memorial Plaza – The three-level underground garage completed; installation of the hvac, fire sprinkler, plumbing and storm water systems continues within the garage areas. Installation of the exterior façade is estimated to be completed in 4-6 months - weather dependent.
• 52 Depew Street – The lower-level garage area platform complete with the entire wood framing of the upper levels near completion. Installation of the exterior envelope and windows in progress.
• 98 Washington Avenue – This building will have 14 affordable units and is about 90% completed.
