1.  Pool Update - The Village recently engaged with a consultant, Rimkunas Engineering (www.rimkunasengineering.com) to conduct an evaluation phase for a pool reconstruction project. Based on feedback from the community through the pool task force, public forums and a survey, a schematic design was selected. More information about the design and project can be found here: https://www.pleasantville-ny.gov/projects-initiatives/pages/pool-task-force. The next step of the process is to develop construction documents, submitted to the Westchester Department of Health for approval. We hope to start construction in the Fall of 2022.

2.  Work to South End of Memorial Plaza - The Village has started work on the south end of Memorial Plaza (between Bedford Road and the gazebo). The work is designed to improve pedestrian safety, parking and traffic circulation. The project will extend into 2022, but part of the work will be completed by this fall. Roadway and most parking areas will remain open. The work includes revised curbs and crosswalks around the gazebo to connect to a new walkway to Cooley Street (being built as part of the construction at 70 Memorial Plaza); reducing the width of the median south of the gazebo providing space to convert the perpendicular metered spaces to angled parking spaces on both sides of the road; and new lighting. We will lose the existing trees in that median, but new plantings will be added elsewhere in the Plaza. 3.  Marijuana Discussion - In March, New York State enacted the “marijuana regulation and taxation act” (MRTA). This legislation proposes to establish a regulated and taxed cannabis industry, and it aims to address social and economic justice issues related to the cannabis. Municipalities can "opt out" of allowing retail dispensaries and/or on‐site consumption establishments within their boundaries if they adopt a local law by December 31, 2021. The Village Board has scheduled the first session to discuss this topic on 9/27 at 7pm. Residents can join via zoom by using this link: https://zoom.us/j/97410487355?pwd=Z0JaSkRaTHJJUnBjK0ZVVWIxcUwwZz09

4.  Manville Road Pedestrian Safety Project - The project to improve Manville Road from Memorial Plaza to Tompkins Avenue has completed the NYS Dept. of Transportation review process. The project is estimated to cost $3-$4 million; $1.6 million would be reimbursed to us by a grant. This fall, the Village will solicit bids for the project before making a decision on whether to proceed.

5.  Repaving - The Village has recently concluded its annual repaving operations, which this year included Ashland Ave., Iroquois Rd., Gramatan Rd., Oneida Rd., Otsego Rd., Willow St., Leland Ave., and Willis Place.

6.  Ragamuffin Parade & Harvest Day - The Village will be holding its Ragamuffin Parade on Saturday, October 30, 2021. The parade will proceed down Bedford Road to Memorial Plaza where we will have rides, games and entertainment. We ask all participants to be mindful of Covid concerns. Information about the exact timing of the parade will be released in the coming week. Please call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 914-769-7950 with any questions.

7.  Candy Crawl - The Candy Crawl – a reverse trick-or-treat where the goodies come to your lawn –  returns for the second year on October 31st from 1-3pm. Last year we drove every street in both the Village of Pleasantville and the Pleasantville Free Union School District. In the coming weeks we’ll be asking candy donations. We will also publish maps to give Villagers a sense of when the Crawl might arrive at their doorstep. This year we’re going to be welcoming the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department as participants (unless there are emergencies, of course). Please contact David Vinjamuri at dvinjamuri@pleasantville-ny.gov with any questions.

8.  Pleasantville Oktoberfest - The Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce and Village are partnering to hold an Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 2 from 4PM to 9PM on Wheeler Avenue. All Pleasantville food vendors, retailers, crafts/artists and professional businesses are invited to participate. This event is to highlight the merchants and small businesses of Pleasantville. For more information, please contact Paul Alvarez at palvarez@pleasantville-ny.gov or the Chamber of Commerce at info@pleasantvillechamber.com.
