Wednesday: Con Ed Crews in Area; Schools Closed
Pleasantville is discouraging trick-or-treating tonight, no decision yet in Briarcliff Manor.
A few businesses around Pleasantville still have their lights on as day two after Hurricane Sandy winds down—Magic Wok, Miyabi, Pleasantville Diner and Starbucks in the downtown area are busy with locals recharging their electronics and enjoy a hot drink or meal.
All local schools have made the decision to stay closed tomorrow while storm cleanup continues and power is slowly restored to the villages.
According to Con Edison, as of 9 p.m. on Tuesday, 2,129 customers are still without power in Briarcliff Manor—the highest number reported since the storm hit.

In Pleasantville, Mayor Peter Scherer said this evening that about 25 percent of homes remain without power. Con Edison's 9 p.m. numbers show 1,207 local customers without power.
He wrote in an email to the community this evening, "We have a Con Edison staff member assigned to coordinate work in the Village, but Con Ed cannot yet predict when power will be restored. They have a massive task ahead of them. We're making sure that our needs are very clearly identified, and we'll provide Public Works support to Con Ed crews wherever that can help get residents up and running."
Scherer also announced that given the number of live wires on the ground, street lights out and branches at risk of falling throughout the village, "...we can't assume that pedestrian conditions will be safe in all areas of the Village by tomorrow night."
"Given this situation, we are concerned about children on the streets for Halloween tomorrow. We recommend that parents organize Halloween celebrations in their homes and keep kids off the streets, especially after dark," Scherer said. "We know that Pville's kids will be disappointed to miss their great traditions at Halloween, but none of that is worth risking safety."
Briarcliff Manor Police said no decision has been articulated for trick-or-treating in the village tomorrow. However, police said that if locals do decide to head out tomorrow, to be extremely cautious.
Some of the major hazards and blocked roads were cleared up around Briarcliff Manor today, including Elm Road and Long Hill Road, but some down trees, wires and dark streets remain.
Long Hill Road West at Cedar Drive remains closed, Chappaqua Road at Fuller Road is also blocked off with down wires and the traffic light on Route 9 at Scarborough Road is also still out, police said.
The intersection of Pleasantville Road at Choate Lane has been cleared, but there are still trees down at the Hardscrabble Road intersection. Many street lights are out in the area and the traffic light at Briarcliff High School is still out as well.
A crew is currently working on South State Road, near the Elm Road intersection. The street remains blocked off.
As of 9:45 p.m. tonight, Pleasantville Police reported all roads have been reopened, with the exception of Locust Road (as of one hour ago).
