Community Corner

This Week: Picture Perfect Saturday!

Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 8:30am – 1:00pm, to gather your preorders shop further

Visitors to the Market on Saturday will see a beautiful sunny, 75° day and that the summer harvest has gained momentum. Fresh produce will be stacked high with corn, peaches, berries, greens, string beans, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, cut flowers and so much more. This week we're also calling attention to the terrific cheeses available at the Market. Whether creating meals for your family, or larger celebrations, the Market's producers can help make those satisfying and special. See you at the Market!

Last Saturday the Market had its first "buy two, donate one" Food Donation Day of the season and it went really well! Each week Pleasantville Community Garden volunteers collect donations from our vendors. On Food Donation Days shoppers can add their donations as well. The generous response by shoppers on 7/24 set a one day collection record with nearly 1000 lbs of food contributed! This week food pantries that partner with us, such as Hillside Food Outreach, promptly delivered all that nutritious food to residents who are food insecure. We thank everyone involved for their contributions to this cause, which also helps to highlight the ongoing work and donations of our producers.

Phelps Health Tip:

Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "Authentic artisanal cheeses aid digestion through the presence of enzymes and/or anti-viral MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides). They also contain less salt than processed cheeses, and none of the dyes, preservatives, stabilizers and other unnecessary ingredients found in more conventional cheese products".

Market Intern Program

The Market is accepting applications from area High School students for the Intern Program. For information inquire at the Manager's Table or email info@pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org.

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

Chaseholm Farm Creamery brings in small batch, Certified Organic, soft ripened and longer aged raw milk cheeses, as well as yogurt and milk. Try their Nimbus or camembert, perfect in texture and flavor all the way through the center. Best served at room temperature and especially on still warm bread or toast. Pair with small dabs of sweet jam. Mmmmm. Or seek one of their firm cheeses - delicious!

Each week Edgwick Farm creates fresh, soft goat cheese made from their own goats milk. Every day milk from their goats goes into a thirty gallon vat where it is pasteurized and cultured. It sits over night and then the curd is scooped into linen bags to hang for a day while whey drips out. They then mix and lightly salt it, and package it for that week's farmers markets. Try their soft goat cheese plain, marinated, or packed in seasonal pairings. They also offer aged cheeses and yogurt as well.

Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse reports that their young spring cheeses are in the Market now. The flavors are buttery and bright, with smooth textures and beautiful golden color. Try Drumm or Baudolino alongside your summer fruits, with some sliced Bobolink bread to complete a summer lunch!

Saturday Trotta Foods will have plenty of fresh mozzarella (smoked and regular). They'll also have burratta, and they occasionally have mozzarella rolls and some marinated mozzarella too.

Kiernan Farms is back this week and again has a 1/2 price SALE on sirloin tip steaks at $10.75/lb (reg. $21.50/lb). They have discounted their pork chops too, to $12.75/lb (reg. $14.75/lb). And if you buy 5 one pound packages of ground beef at $11.75/lb, get $10.00 off the total.

Red Barn Bakery and Strudel House each will be in for an extra visit this Saturday. (Note: get your strudel stocked up, they'll be out all of August.)

Last call for Cooper's Daughter Spirits' Peony Liqueur. Made with real flowers grown organically in the Hudson Valley, this might be one of the most unique distillery items you can find. Add to Prosecco, hard cider, or to sweeten a lemonade. They're almost sold out for this year!

Woven Stars Farm has fresh chicken this week, with whole roasting chickens and regular cuts like boneless breasts, thighs, drumsticks, wings, liver, hearts and feet.

Warwick Valley Winery & Black Dirt Distillery will be in Saturday with numerous versions of their Doc's Hard Cider (peach!), wines, liqueurs, fruit cordials and additional distilled items.

Teagevity thinks nothing says summer like their Organic Raspberry Summer Lemon Ice Tea. Furthermore, they offer this delicious blend by the bag loose, by the cup iced, as 16oz 2go bottle and frozen as this week's Tea Popz flavor.

Conant Valley Jams is highlighting their Red Velvet Aprium Jam this week - rich flavor with a hint of rosemary.

Edgwick Farm is sharing that Feta Mint Watermelon Salad is a refreshing favorite whose season has arrived. For the first time this season, Gajeski Produce and Dobler Farms will have watermelon. For every purchase of Edgwick Farm feta this week, they will throw in a free bunch of mint and a recipe card for this scrumptious summer side dish!

Pango!

The Village of Pleasantville has introduced a smartphone app as an option to pay for all metered and pay station parking in Pleasantville. Download the free PANGO app for iPhone or Android devices, and follow the prompts to set up an account and method of payment. Parking meters have stickers (and QR codes) that indicate the parking zone—and parking lots have signs posted with zone numbers. There is a 16% service fee charged by Pango. The app will deliver a reminder message five minutes before time expires, and (in most locations) time can be extended via the app.
