Winter Farming, Winter Shopping

Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 9 – 11:30am to gather preorders and shop further

Winter provides extra challenges on our farms. It's dark when our producers wake up and dark when they do their evening chores. Paths and barn entrances must be kept clear of snow. Machinery and vehicles need repairs. Farmers need to be attentive to ensure fresh food remains safe in high tunnels. There's plenty of buttoning up one's Carhartt layers against the cold while breaking ice on water troughs and hauling feed for the animals. And when there's midwinter calving or kidding to be done a farmer's work runs 24/7 for a while. Thanks again to all our producers for their great work arriving with the foods we love, every week!

When COVID required us to start remaining outdoors year-round we reinvented where, how and when to shop the Market during winter. There was worry shoppers might add "why" when considering an outdoor winter market. Not so! Our producers have been really pleased to see so many shoppers make the effort to preorder and visit the Market this winter. So thanks to our hard core shoppers who keep making the Market possible with their ongoing support!

OPEN SATURDAY?
WE'RE WATCHING THE WEATHER

It's early in the week, but Pleasantville Farmers Market and its producers are watching Saturday's weather forecast due to the potential of a snowstorm. Here's the details on our process so you know how to make your plans:

  • If snow bypasses our area we will run the Market so please place preorders as usual with Pleasantville Farmers Market Online
  • If the Market is unable to open, all preorders will be cancelled before any charges are made
  • A "go / no go" weather call will be communicated in a second newsletter this Thursday, noon.
  • The decision will also be posted to our homepage at www.pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org

OMICRON & SHOPPING SAFELY

Pleasantville Farmers Market remains committed to the health and safety of the whole community, including shoppers, vendors, volunteers, and staff.

As we contend with Omicron in the latest COVID-19 challenge:

  • Unvaccinated shoppers are required to mask while shopping.
  • It's recommended that ALL shoppers mask while at the Market (regardless of vaccination status, and including children ages 3+).
  • All shoppers are requested to maintain physical distancing in the marketplace.

Avoid the Market if you're sick. Especially so if you exhibit any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus (temperature of 100° or above, a cough, a sore throat, shortness of breath). The New York State Department of Health has set up a hotline at (888) 364-3065 where Department of Health experts are available to answer questions regarding COVID-19.

PARKING OPTIONS

Click here for directions to the outdoor Market. Do you know the "hidden parking lots of Pville"? There are 8 parking lots within a few blocks of the Market, with over 400 parking spaces available - plus metered street parking throughout the Village. Review them all by clicking here to view a summary of parking lot locations.

Pango! The Village of Pleasantville has introduced a smartphone app as an option to pay for all metered and pay station parking in Pleasantville. Visit Pango to download the free Pango app for iPhone or Android devices, and follow the prompts to set up an account and method of payment. Parking meters have stickers (and QR codes) that indicate the parking zone—and parking lots have signs posted with zone numbers. There is a 16% service fee charged by Pango. The app will deliver a reminder message five minutes before time expires, and (in most locations) time can be extended via the app.
