Winter Harvest? Of Course!

Place preorders from our vendors Tues, 7:00pm – Thurs, 7:00pm. Then walk up Saturday, 9:30am – 12:00pm, to gather preorders and shop further

The winter season has a harvest thanks to our talented Pleasantville Farmers Market producers. Winter-growing farms offer fresh items such as herbs, microgreens, kale, chard, carrots, scallions, leeks, radishes, bok choy, and they have cellared root vegetables too. Regional grains, grown and stored in the fall, are sold as raw ingredients for your baking, or they're brought in as part of the many fresh baked goods offered at the Market. Summer has been bottled as honey, jams, chutneys, and sauces. Farms selling proteins have abundant items of pork, beef, duck, and chicken. Eggs continue to arrive, and are also a key ingredient in fresh pastas. Our fisherman has some seafood only seen during winter months. Our orchard has over twelve varieties of apples stored so they remain crisp, as well as jarred apple and pear sauces. With a winter harvest of interesting options, menu planning remains full of potential. And when you want to take it easy in the kitchen, the Market has a number of prepared food items made with regionally produced ingredients. Your weekly support directly helps all these farmers and food artisans. Make a difference, and a delicious menu, by shopping at the Market throughout the winter season.

Northwell Health Weekly Tip;
Your local hospitals, Phelps Hospital and Northern Westchester Hospital, both part of the Market's Lead Sponsor Northwell Health, share the following: "Health experts have emphasized the significance of reducing sodium, and increasing potassium levels, in the US diet. Sodium intake can be lowered by swapping processed foods for more fresh produce. And potassium occurs naturally in produce such as fresh beets, beet greens, Swiss chard, radishes, spinach and squash."

VENDOR HIGHLIGHTS

What can a farmers market provide you in January? PFM-O is the ultimate tool to answer that question as it lists ALL products from ALL vendors in the Pleasantville Farmers Market (and PFM-O offers one-click-to-pay convenience).

Maple View Farm's microgreens, lettuces, mustard greens, bunched kale, pea shoots, claytonia, bunched red radishes and more are available -- so fresh they last more than a week in the fridge. And this winter they're offering a "Farmer's Choice Bag" which offers a bulk discount on 7-9 items of seasonal produce selected for you from a variety of roots, greens, and herbs.

Pura Vida Fisheries has fresh seafood from our region - browse PFM-O to see what they will have this week. Don't overlook their creative prepared food items too.

Gajeski Produce has their PFM-O store loaded with items for your weeks meals, whether fresh greens or cellared roots veggies - dive in and get preordering!

Noble Pies will be in this Saturday with a full line of sweet and savory pies including Chicken Curry Pie, Vegetable Curry Pie, Pecan Cheesecake Pie, and Apple Walnut Caramel Crumb Pie.

Hilly Acres Farm visits with beef, poultry, pork, lamb, and eggs. They're offering a free Hilly Acres insulated bag to all shoppers with an online order of $50 or more. Also, this week they're highlighting that their 1lb. packages of ground beef are $7.99/lb, and they have smoked, nitrate-free, ham steaks (b. 1/2 - 1 lb) for $8.99/lb. Browse PFM-O to get to know their many offerings.

Trotta Foods is always crafting new pasta options. This week they've added fresh Radiatori and Rigatoni in PFM-O.

Conant Valley Jams is now offering their excellent, fruit-forward jams and marmalades in two ways: $12 for a 8oz jar packaged with artistic fabric and ribbon, or $11 for a simpler labeled jar. Look for the drop down menu in PFM-O to select which option you prefer.

Pika's Farm Table has warming dishes such as pot pies and soups. We see this week Pika added Chili with Beef, Cream of Potato Broccoli soup, Mushroom Bisque, Potato Leek Soup, and Tomato Parmesan Soup to her PFM-O store - Yum! Check out all her offerings for convenient and delicious meals this week.

Hudson River Apiaries has their PFM-O store loaded with honeys to choose from.

Mead Orchards has Honeycrisp apples again! These just came out of controlled atmosphere storage so they’re as fresh and crunchy as when they were picked.

Forward Roots is in this week with their small batch, naturally fermented kimchi products.

Given Edgwick Farm and Bobolink Dairy & Bakehose are out in January, Chaseholm Farm Creamery is making extra visits to supply your dairy needs. See them this week with their cows milks soft and hard cheeses.

Cooper's Daughter Spirits will be in Saturday with their unique distilled items.

The Village of Pleasantville's Memorial Plaza parking lot requires payment on Saturdays. The Village's Pango smartphone app and two pay stations are available to make payment for Plaza lot parking and metered street side spaces. Have your license plate number when making payment. For the most convenient way to pay, download the free Pango app today and follow the prompts to set up an account and method of payment. Market Bucks:
Any Market Bucks you have from our spring/summer/fall season can be used throughout the winter with any vendor. We do pause providing new Market Bucks until April when our Manager's Tent returns. Note: vendors take credit cards for purchases and accept cash of course -- easiest of all, avoid payment at the Market by preordering.

Using SNAP at the Market:
The Pleasantville Farmers Market welcomes shoppers using SNAP EBT. To use SNAP benefits during winter locate the Market Manager who will help you redeem your benefits as tokens. And THANKS to a generous grant from our local hospitals, Phelps Hospital and Northern Westchester Hospital, both part of the Market's Lead Sponsor Northwell Health, you'll receive 40% more value as "Bonus Bucks", enhancing your ability to purchase nutritious, farm fresh foods for you and your family.
