With Possible Indictment Looming, Henry Family Won't Accept Less Than Murder

The parents and family of DJ Henry say they feel they know the truth, but are now looking for justice.

With legal proceedings in the case of Danroy "DJ" Henry moving forward, family sentiments have shifted from finding truth to finding justice.

"I believe we do [know the truth]," said DJ Henry's mother Angella Henry on CNN's American Morning last week. "Based on the witnesses, based on Brandon [Cox] who was in the front seat, based on forensic evidence, we have a pretty good idea of what happened that night."

Angella Henry said on the Facebook page Absolute Truth for the Henry Family last week that a grand jury has reached a decision on whether or not there will be an indictment on Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant police officers.

DJ Henry, a Pace University student native to Easton, MA, was by Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess outside of a bar in Thornwood, NY. Hess said Henry's car was speeding toward him and he had nowhere to go before ending up on the hood of the vehicle, firing shots through the windshield. Mount Pleasant Police Officer Ronald Beckley also fired shots.

Henry's father, Danroy Henry Sr. in front of the Grand Jury last month.

"I would love to talk to him, because I’d love to ask him ‘why?’" Danroy Henry Sr. said last week on CNN regarding whether or not he would want to speak to Hess. "Officers aren’t trained to escalate risk. They’re trained to de-escalate. One of the first things they’re taught at the academy is to go home at night."

While an indictment is expected this week according to Angella Henry, family members continue to mourn a loss that she said is "still raw."

"He was a beautiful kid, beautiful smile," Henry's grandmother Peggy Dozier said in a Youtube video last week. "He loved life, loved his family. He has a huge family. They all love him. They miss him."

The Henrys have against Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant. Danroy Henry Sr. and Angella Henry told CNN that they would not accept any charge less than murder.

"Our son was murdered for doing the right thing," Angella Henry said. "He was asked to move his car from one police department and a different officer from another police department killed him."
