PORT CHESTER, NY — A state trooper is out of the hospital and recovering from his injuries after being struck by a car while removing debris from the New England Thruway, but cops are still looking for the hit-and-run driver responsible.

New York State Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2500 for information that directly leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for hitting the trooper on I-95 in Port Chester, near the Connecticut border, last Thursday.

Shortly before 9 p.m., a marked New York State Police car was parked on the shoulder of I-95, southbound, near mile marker 14.9 (between exits 16 and 17) when an as yet unidentified vehicle traveling southbound struck the trooper, who was walking back to the patrol car after removing the obstruction from the highway.

The vehicle did not stop at the scene of the collision, but instead continued south on I-95 in the direction of New York City. The right and center lanes, between Exit 21 and the Connecticut state line, remained blocked for several hours overnight while crash investigators combed the scene for clues and evidence.

The trooper, who has not been named, was treated for "multiple" injuries at Westchester Medical Center. The trooper has since been released, and is continuing to recover at home.
