3 Men Charged with Violent Felonies in Port Chester, 1 Faces Murder Charge

Port Chester, NY — Three Port Chester men have been charged in separate violent robberies and one man has been charged with murder.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty said Daniel Thomas Jones, 25, of Weber Drive; Nasir Blair, 18, of Glen Avenue, and Anthony Menchaca, 16, of Grace Church Street, approached two men sitting in a pickup truck in the Stop and Shop parking lot in Port Chester around 2:50 a.m. November 25, 2015.

Police said the three men assaulted and robbed the victims, stealing wallets, an iPhone, cash and a bank card.

Both victims required medical treatment after suffering head injuries from the assault.

Three days later, Arturo Arias Garcia was confronted by Jones on Abendroth Avenue.

Jones struck Garcia in the head and he fell to the pavement, police said, adding Jones took Garcia’s money and credit card.

When police and EMTs responded, Garcia had no pulse and they were not able to revive him.

He was pronounced dead at Greenwich Hospital.

An autopsy determined Garcia died from blunt force trauma to the head which resulted in a fatal concussion.

An investigation placed Jones on Abendroth Avenue at the time Garcia was attacked, and forensic evidence linked Jones to the parking lot robbery as well.

The three men were subsequently arrested.

Their charges are as follows:

Daniel Thomas Jones:

• one count of second-degree murder, a class “A” Felony,
• two counts of first-degree robbery, class “B” Violent Felonies,
• four counts of second-degree robbery, class “C” Felonies,
• three counts of second-degree assault, class “D” Felonies,
• six counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, class “E” Felonies,
• two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, class “E” Felonies.

Nasir Blair:

• one count of first-degree robbery, a class “B” Violent Felony,
• four counts of second-degree robbery, class “C” Violent Felonies,
• three counts of second-degree assault, class “D” Felonies,
• four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, class “E” Felonies,
• one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class “E” Felony.

Anthony Menchaca:

• one count of first-degree robbery, a class “B” Violent Felony,
• four counts of second-degree robbery, class “C” Violent Felonies,
• three counts of second-degree assault, class “D” Felonies,
• four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, class “E” Felonies,
• one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class “E” Felony.

If convicted of the murder charge, Jones could face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.

Jones and Blair remain in jail. Menchaca is out on bail.
