Annual MLK Jr. Celebration to Be Held in Port Chester
Sen. George Latimer will be the keynote speaker.

RYE BROOK, NY — The annual Interfaith Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., community-wide commemorative event will take place on Sunday, January 22.
The non-denominational celebration will be held in the Port Chester Middle School auditorium, 113 Bowman Ave. in Rye Brook, starting at 6: pm and is open to everyone, according to a spokeswoman.
The celebration will include readings from Dr. King’s body of work, as well as performances by the Community Choir directed by Robert Mosely and the Port Chester Middle School Chorus directed by Mark Zizolfo. Other special guests will be presenting as well.

This year’s keynote speaker is state Senator George Latimer, who represents Port Chester and surrounding towns.
Byron Womack, Port Chester Middle School assistant principal, will receive the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee Humanitarian Award. He is being recognized for his longstanding work with children and most recently his leadership with the Steer for Student Athletes program

This is the third year that this longstanding event will be organized by an interfaith committee comprised of All Souls Presbyterian Church, Bethel Sounds of Praise, Bethesda Baptist, Christ’s Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel, Girtman Memorial, Holy Rosary Roman Catholic, Mount Zion Baptist, Rye Presbyterian, St. Frances AME Zion, St. Paul’s Lutheran, St. Peter’s Episcopal and the Port Chester School District.
