The ’ biggest road trip of the season has gotten off to a disappointing start, as Rockland dropped its fourth straight, with the Sioux City (Iowa) Explorers completing the three-game sweep in a 4-1 win.
Billy Alvino was a bright spot, going 3-for-3 at the plate for the Boulders, but it was not enough.
Sioux City scratched out single runs in the first and fourth innings against Boulders starter Gustavo Chacin, who struggled at times but kept his squad in the running over six innings of work. The Boulders had little answer for Explorers starter Aaron Correa, who held the visitors scoreless over the first six innings on just four hits.

Rockland managed to string a rally together in the seventh as Qualon Millender’s RBI grounder brought in Ryan Mollica to trim the deficit to 2-1, but Sioux City’s Andrew Snowden came on to quell the threat. The Explorers extended their lead in the bottom half, rallying for two runs on three hits off Boulders reliever Garrett Johnson, and the deficit would prove too much to overcome.
With six tough games remaining in the trip, the Boulders proceed to take on the Fargo-Moorehead RedHawks for a Friday-Sunday weekend set, and finish against the St. Paul Saints from Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 20-22.
