Snap, crackle, pop

Junior Bianca Harris of Teaneck, NJ scored 10 points and pulled down five rebound, but the Dominican College women’s basketball team had a four-game winning streak snapped, losing to Southern Connecticut State University, 70-32, in a non-conference game at the Moore Field House in New Haven, CT.

Senior guard Samantha Klunk of York, PA, and sophomore forward K.C. Jentzen of Pearl River, a Nanuet alumna, each scored six points for the Lady Chargers, who shot just 13 of 43 from the field and dropped to 4-5 overall on the season.

Dominican just started a new winning streak at home in Orangeburg on Tuesday against Bloomfield (NJ) College when they beat Bloomfield College 66-62 in overtime. Now the team will head to Bronxville on Jan. 18 for a game at 5:30 p.m. against Bronxville.

Milligan, Salandra power unblemished Diplomats

Senior guard Georgio Milligan of Spring Valley and sophomore guard Jon Salandra of Harrison lead the unbeaten Franklin & Marshall College men’s basketball team into action tonight in a game at Lancaster, PA, against visiting Muhlenberg College of Allentown, PA.

Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.

The undefeated Diplomats (13-0, 6-0 Centennial Conference) are ranked No. 7 while the visiting Mules are 9-3 with a 3-3 mark in the conference.

Milligan, an alum of Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, NJ, leads the team in scoring (18.3 points per game), assists (4.5) and steals (2.2).

Salandra, was in the Harrison Central School District before heading to The Hackley School in Tarrytown after the 8th grade. He is second on the Diplomats in rebounding with 4.5 caroms a game, and ranks third in scoring with an 8.5 norm.

Franklin & Marshall will continue its home stand on Saturday (Jan. 14), hosting Washington College (8-5) at 4 p.m.

Suffern Graduate Standouts for Dolphins

The College of Mount Saint Vincent women’s basketball team, which dropped its third straight contest and fell to 3-9 in its last 12 games in Riverdale with a 63-48 loss to Old Westbury, visits powerhouse Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh tonight (Jan. 12) at 7 p.m.

The host Knights are rolling at 11-2.

Mount Saint Vincent got off to a good start against the Panthers, taking a quick 7-2 lead after buckets from Brittany Griffin of Suffern and Tanisha Montague of Brooklyn, along with a three-point by Sarah Kluth of Lynbrook who scored a team-high 13 points.

The Dolphins would match their game-high lead at the 13:01 mark of the first half after a Griffin jumper, but would then allow a 25-2 Old Westbury run over a nine-minute stretch to open a 33-19 lead at intermission.

The Dolphins finished the game shooting 23.1-percent from the floor and have now shot under 30-percent for a game in four contests this season. The Mount went 3-for-17 from behind the arc and 9-for-14 from the free-throw line.
