Hudson Valley Unions Recruiting 140 Apprentices

PORT CHESTER, NY — Five Hudson Valley unions are starting apprentice recruitment drives. They're looking for people interested in being ironworkers, elevator constructors, sprinkler fitters, outside line workers or carpenters. The drives vary in the length of the application period, how and when to apply and who is eligible.

Qualifications are specific and vary from union to union. You can read all the qualifications in the press release sent out by the New York State Labor Department on behalf of each union here.

Ironworkers

Local Union #417, started their recruitment in September. It runs through Sept. 14, 2018 for 10 ironworker (outside) apprentices who live in Dutchess, Orange, Putman, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster.

Applications can be completed, in person only, at Local Union #417, 583 Route 32, Wallkill, NY, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Elevator Constructors

The International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local Union #1, will conduct a recruitment from Oct. 28, 2017 through Nov. 11, 2017 for 100 elevator-escalator constructor and modernizer apprentices. It will be online only, beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 through 11:59 p.m. Nov. 11, 2017 (24 hours per day), during the recruitment period or until 1,250 applicants are reached, whichever comes first.

Applicants who do not have Internet access may visit their local library, Local One Education Facility, or their nearest New York State Department of Labor Career Center. If they receive 1,250 applications a notice will be posted at the facility and on the Local Union #1 website at www.localoneiuec.com. To apply,

Sprinkler fitters

Sprinkler Fitters, Local Union #669, will conduct a recruitment from Oct. 30, 2017 through Nov. 2, 2018 for 20-25 sprinkler fitter apprentices.

Applications can be obtained from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Line workers

The Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Outside Electrical Industry will conduct a recruitment from Oct. 14, 2017 through Oct. 13, 2018 for 10-20 electrical (outside) line worker apprentices.

Among the qualifications, applicants must be willing and able to travel to worksites anywhere within Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Lathers

Northeast Carpenters Apprenticeship Fund will conduct a recruitment drive from Nov. 2, 2017 through Nov. 1, 2018 for four lather (carpenter) apprentices. Apprentices must live within the jurisdiction, which includes Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties.

Applications must be obtained in person at the Northeast Carpenters Apprenticeship Fund Training Center, 52 Stone Castle Road, Rock Tavern, NY, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Thursday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Be prepared to take a math and measurement computation test at the time of application.
