Carver Center’s Groundbreaking Pilot After School Program – In Collaboration with the PC School District.
The Carver Center is thrilled to announce that starting on April 10, 2014 more Port Chester children will be receiving after school care, thanks to a new pilot program. The program will launch in three Port Chester schools –Thomas Edison, John F. Kennedy and Port Chester Middle School. Twenty children in each school will participate in this pilot program. The Port Chester Carver Center will serve as administrators for this program. Participating children, selected by the schools, will be provided with academic support, nutritious snacks and access to enrichment activities including, community gardening, online literacy and math instruction, as well as daily recreation activities.
The Pilot Program was developed in collaboration with The Port Chester Carver Center and the Port Chester School District in an effort to alleviate the gap in care caused by the loss of funding from the 21st Century Initiative in 2013. This expansion of after school care services is greatly needed in the ever-expanding community and was made possible by the support of a private foundation.
As a parallel effort to this Pilot, planning sessions for an expanded fall program are being conducted by The Port Chester Carver Center, PC School District, The After School Corporation (TASC) and the private foundation.
