Navigating Admissions
Free Presentation, in nearby Greenwich, on Day and Boarding School and College Admissions

The JCC Greenwich in partnership with YWCA Greenwich will host Greenwich Education Group on Tuesday, April 28, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., at the YWCA Greenwich for an informative seminar for parents regarding navigating school admissions. The presentation will include information about day and boarding school and college admissions, providing valuable information and insight about admission processes.
“YWCA Greenwich is pleased, once again, to partner with JCC and the Greenwich Education Group. Our Steven and Alexandra Cohen Preschool center starts youngsters on the life-long journey of learning, and Greenwich Education Group continues that process by affording parents later educational opportunities,” said YWCA President and CEO Adrianne Singer.
For families who have never considered boarding school, the seminar is an opportunity to become acquainted with the excellent options throughout the United States. Many parents may not consider sending their child “away” to school, fearing that boarding schools are havens for children of privilege or refuges for troubled teens. In reality, boarding schools serve a diverse group of motivated students who study and live in supportive, inclusive academic communities.

Victoria Newman and Muffy Fox, Co-Directors of Day and Boarding School Advisory Services at Greenwich Education Group, note that choosing the right independent or boarding school is a decision that can have a lifelong impact. Boarding school staff and faculty are experts in managing teenagers and are excellent partners in helping students develop into responsible adults. Many parents feel that relationships are strengthened when their teens have the carefully supervised independence that boarding schools provide.
Frequently, both students and parents view the college admissions process with high levels of trepidation and anxiety. The initial process of simply establishing a list of possible colleges to which the student may apply is time-consuming and confusing. The college admissions process creates its own anxiety through required essays and standardized tests; requesting and collecting recommendations; and submitting the applications themselves

“Families feel the strain of all parts of the process,” explains Newman. “From working your way through long lists of schools and then somehow determining fit based upon write-ups and brief visits, the process is daunting. Once that is decided, coping with the demands of maximizing a student’s probability of acceptance simply layers on a whole new level of stress for student and parents. GEG hopes that by bringing clarity to the process and focusing everyone’s energy and emotions, a better selection will be made and the odds of success will increase.”
Leah Schechter, Assistant Director of JCC Greenwich, explains, “We are very pleased to partner with Greenwich Education Group on this seminar. We are always interested in offering programs that help parents make more informed decisions for their children and families. In this way, Greenwich Education Group is a strong resource for families and the community in ensuring success in navigating the admissions process at every level.”
