Port Chester High School Student Receives Firemen's Association Scholarship

Charles Nielsen is one of 15 students in the state to receive a scholarship from the group.

Port Chester High School senior Charles Nielsen has been selected to receive a $1,500 scholarship from The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, the school announced.

The award, which is bestowed to only 15 high school students in the state, recognizes “exemplary service as a youth in the fire service, as well as service to the recipients’ communities.”

Nielsen currently volunteers as a firefighter with the Purchase Fire Department and also is the captain of the Explorer Post of the Port Chester Fire Department.

He plans to attend Westchester Community College in the fall, according to Port Chester school officials.
