The suspect was gainfully employed while collecting the benefits, according to state police.

Port Chester resident Victor Michaca, 34, was arrested by state police Thursday on a charge of Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, for illegally collecting more than $27,000 in unemployment insurance benefits.

The arrest stemmed from a complaint received from the New York State Department of Labor Special Investigation Division which indicated Michaca unlawfully collected the benefits while he was gainfully employed, according to state police.

An investigation revealed that Michaca made weekly certifications to the Department of Labor stating that he was unemployed while in fact he was gainfully employed. State police did not disclose where Michaca was employed.
