Port Chester Middle School Closing Update
The school has been closed for more than a week for safety reasons.

PORT CHESTER, NY — Crews are still working on installing equipment to ensure students and staff can safely return to Port Chester Middle School. Administrators are hoping that students at the middle school can return to classes Tuesday in order to start making up for lost school time. A letter sent to parents said if clearance is received that the building can be opened on Monday, it will be announced as soon as possible.
Only middle school students will be in class on Tuesday. All other schools will be closed on Election Day for a previously scheduled teacher professional development day.
Crews have been working extended shifts installing equipment and replacing windows damaged when a mounting for a decorative concrete panel fell Oct. 26.

Nearly 90 panels have to be shored up, and safety bridges are being constructed where the panels exist over exterior entry doors.
The notice said, “This is a significant project whose completion depends on weather, the availability of supplies and the usual unforeseen construction challenges. Keep in mind that there are nearly 90 concrete panels with about six vertical supports each that must be anchored to a multi-story building, and because this project involves the safety of our children, we demand the highest quality engineering and construction work as we also work with the State Education Department to ensure strict compliance with their engineering and safety specifications.”
