Port Chester Schools to Present Pair of Music Concerts Next Month
The annual concerts are in observance and celebration of "Music In Our Schools Month."

The Port Chester School District will present a pair of annual concerts in March in observance and celebration of “Music In Our Schools Month,” the system’s Music Department announced Wednesday. Both are free and open to the public.
The district’s Instrumental concert will take place on at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, and the Choral concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12. Both performances will be at Port Chester Middle School’s Archie Jacobs Auditorium. Admission is free.

The District Instrumental Concert will feature several musical groups, including the Select Fifth Grade Band, led by Michael Miceli and Anthony Sabia, the Middle School’s Sixth Grade Band and the Seventh & Eighth Grade Band directed by Linda McDermott and the Symphonic Band of Port Chester High School, led by Robert Vitti. The bands will perform an eclectic mix of selections, including “Alien Invasion”, “Castle Hill Overture”, “The Great Locomotive Chase”, Leroy Anderson’s “Irish Suite”, “The Liberty Bell” and “Amparito Roca”. The grand finale featuring all of the participants will be “America the Beautiful”.
Leading the Choral program will be the one hundred member strong Select Fifth Grade Chorus, representing Port Chester’s four elementary schools, directed by Kristen D’Avanzo, Kristin Fleming and Michael Johnson. Next to perform will be groups from Port Chester Middle School; the Sixth grade Chorus and the Seventh & Eighth Grade Chorus led by Mark Zizolfo. Port Chester High School’s Concert Choir, under the direction of Linda Ventura, will round out the program.

The theme for the concert will be the “Great American Songbook”. Among the music presented will be “Alexander’s Ragtime Band”, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, “Puttin’ On the Ritz”, “Blue Skies”, “Beautiful City and “Alright, Okay, You Win”. All of the groups will combine to sing the finale, “Anything Goes”, by Cole Porter.
The Grand Finale will feature the combined talents of all 350 instrumental participants performing “God Bless America”.
