Relay For Life of Eastchester Kicks Off its 2015 Season

Relay For Life of Eastchester celebrates its 7th year of fighting cancer by kicking off its 2015 season at Ciao Restaurant on February 24th

As many people in Eastchester can attest, Relay For Life isn’t just an event, it’s an experience. 2015 marks the 7th year for the Relay For Life of Eastchester, and since its inception, the event has raised approximately $450,000 in the fight against cancer. Those funds have directly impacted members of the Eastchester community through the American Cancer Society’s many programs and services.

Relay For Life is an overnight, team event that caters to families, neighbors, civic organizations, businesses and everything in between. Teams are formed in honor or in memory of someone who has battled cancer, or simply because they want to make a difference. Teams begin their fundraising prior to the event through car washes, sporting events, bake sales and other creative ideas, in addition to their individual fundraising efforts and an onsite fundraiser the night of the event. The money raised supports the programs and services of the American Cancer Society. For example, last year, in Westchester County alone, the American Cancer Society provided 96 women with a free wig and 100 cancer patients received a total of 568 free rides to and from their treatment, in addition to many patient services the American Cancer Society is able to provide, it also funds life-saving research at hospitals and universities.

Every single week 100 individuals are diagnosed with cancer in Westchester County; unfortunately Eastchester is included in that statistic. The American Cancer Society has been working with a committee comprised of members of the Eastchester, Bronxville and Tuckahoe communities to plan and execute this life-saving and life-changing annual event. In 2015, the volunteers along with the American Cancer Society are committed to making this event bigger and better than ever.
