School Shooting Threat Update: 'A Juvenile Has Been Charged'

Port Chester police said the phone threat that caused a lockout at all district schools has been linked to the suspect.

PORT CHESTER, NY — Port Chester police said an arrest has been made in connection with a phone threat of gun violence at Park Avenue Elementary School.

Investigators said a juvenile has been charged and taken into custody. Because the suspect is underage, the police have not released the identity or details about the person who was arrested on Wednesday.

"As stated prior we take these incidents very serious," PCPD said in a statement released on social media Wednesday evening. "Our Detective's conducted an extensive investigation to locate the caller and gather information to bring this to a successful conclusion. We want to acknowledge the importance of our good working relationship with the School district, Rye Brook PD and outside agencies working together to make a safe environment for our children."

The phone call threatening a shooting at the Port Chester elementary school triggered a massive police response and a lockout at all of the district's schools. Police said the move was made "out of an abundance of caution."

Police maintained both a uniformed and plainclothes presence at each of the schools in the Port Chester district, while investigators and federal agents worked to locate the source of the threatening phone call.
