2 Arrested, More Than $100K Worth Of Heroin, Weapons, Fireworks Seized In Long Island Raids: Cops

BREAKING: One man had heroin within the reach of five children under the age of 12, police say.

Two men are behind bars and police say they took more than $100,000 worth of drugs, along with weapons and fireworks, off the streets of Long Island Wednesday morning. It happened in back-to-back raids at Suffolk County homes.

Suffolk Police first executed a search warrant at a home in the unit block of Beach Lane in Coram around 6 a.m. and arrested 44-year-old Keith Daves, who lives at the home, where police say they seized 349 grams of heroin — worth more than $83,000 — an assault rifle, a 9mm handgun and a .45-caliber handgun.

Less than an hour later, police executed a search warrant in the unit block of Rockaway Drive in Sound Beach and arrested 42-year-old Kenneth Pellegrino, a resident of the home.

During the search, police say they found about 110 grams of heroin — worth $26,000 — around $4,500 worth of crack/cocaine (75 grams), marijuana (33 grams) and more than $1,800 in cash. A shotgun, digital scales, cellphones and drug packaging material were also seized, police said.

“What's important to note about this search warrant is that it began with calls to our 631-852-NARC line," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Tim Sini said. "We were able to get drugs off the street and a shotgun off the street that belonged to a drug dealer, and we were able to do that because of the assistance of the residents of Suffolk County.”

Daves was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child for having heroin within the reach of five children between the ages of 1 and 12 living at the house, police said.

Pellegrino was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, unlawfully dealing in fireworks and unlawfully storing fireworks.

Both men will be held overnight and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip Thursday.
