Go to the Port Jeff Library Without Leaving Home

Check out the many online services that the Port Jefferson Free Library offers! Get a library card, sign up for programs, reserve materials and more!

Here in Port Jefferson we may have missed "Snowtober," but winter weather is on the way. Even if you are snowbound you can still get to the –online! All you need to access these services is your Port Jefferson Library barcode and password. To get a password click on the box that says "My Account." Enter the barcode on the back of your library card, do not fill in the password box. Click "log in" and you will be prompted to create a password.

Here are a few highlights of the online services available:

1. Don’t have a library card? On the library homepage click on the bright yellow button that says "Sign Up for a Library Card" on the right side of the page. In the box at the top of the page that next loads type in your home address and click search. Your home library will be displayed on the left side of the page. Click the deep blue box that says "Get a Card" and follow the onscreen prompts. Once your registration is complete you will have a temporary library barcode that you can use to register for programs, and reserve materials.

*Your barcode is only good for 30 days. Within that time come into the library to get your real library card!

2. Heard about a great new book, a can’t miss movie, or a new artist you’d love to hear? Check the Port Jefferson Library online catalog to see if we own the title. Just type the title or artist in the search box under "Port Jefferson Books, Movie, and More" on the library’s home page. Don’t see your item in our catalog? Expand your search to include all the libraries in Suffolk County. If you find the item you are seeking, click the "Request" button to have it held for you. To place holds you must have a library barcode and password. Most available items arrive the library in approximately one week. The library will call you or send an email to let you know your item is ready.

3. Do you have a Nook, Kindle, iPad or other e-reader device? You can download ebooks in a variety of formats from the Library free of charge. Adult, children, and teen titles are available. Check the Free Download link to see a list of available titles and the various formats.

See our instructions for downloading ebooks and our Kindle specific instructions.

4. The library is proud to announce the implementation of online programming registrations. Patrons will be able to register themselves for all of our many exciting programs for adults, children, and teens! To search for programs click on the "Register for Programs Link" on the right side of the Library homepage or use this link.

Each library card allows for only one person to sign up per program, so we strongly encourage parents to get library cards for each child to facilitate program self registration. If you need to sign up multiple individuals with one card, please call the library to register.

As always, if you need any assistance with our online offerings please call the Library at 473-0022. Ask to speak with the department that is sponsoring the activity that interests you. We can be reached by email: adref@portjeffersonlibrary.org (Adult Reference questions). info@pjteen.org (Teen questions), or childrens@portjefflibrary.org (Children’s questions)
