This week, Patch reported on a variety of business developments across northern and central Suffolk County. Here are the highlights.

PORT JEFFERSON

New Educational Child Care Facility Coming to Port Jefferson Station

Children of America, an education-based child care and preschool center, is busy building a Port Jefferson Station facility on Route 112 that is slated to open at the end of June.

The company recently opened locations in East Setauket and Smithtown, and so chief operating officer Jim Parretty said the Port Jefferson Station location "was a natural progression."

HAUPPAUGE

Businesses to Pay Most of Hauppauge School Budget

Hauppauge’s business districts will contribute more to the 2013-14 school budget than resident taxpayers, according to information provided working a budget workshop Tuesday at the Whippoorwill Administration building.

SMITHTOWN

New York Stuffed Cone Company Sweetens Up St. James

For a cone that requires a spoon and toppings that go beyond rainbow and chocolate sprinkles, head to the recently opened New York Stuffed Cone Company and prepare to pack in some serious topping temptations.

The shop, which opened at the end of February, is the creation of husband and wife Dave and Lauren Saracino, who believe St. James is ripe for a place like this.

KINGS PARK

Subway's Kings Park-Smithtown Border Location to Open in 2 Months

Construction and electrical workers at the soon-to-be-home to Subway Restaurant on the Kings Park-Smithtown border confirmed Friday that the eatery could be open in as soon as two months.

The workers from T.R.C. Electric were working at the scene late Friday afternoon and said the work on the 1217 Route 25A location, the former home to Ji Sushi & Chinese Food, began last Monday.

THREE VILLAGE

PHOTO: New Tex Mex Eatery Coming to Setauket

New signs are up at 736 Route 25A in Setauket, a commercial space that has been home to at least two other restaurants in the past three years. The new signs read "East Coast Burrito" and "Tex-Mex Redefined." The new eatery replaces Cuzzin's Smoothie Café, which closed early in 2012, and which itself had replaced Melville Grill.

COMMACK

Miller's Ale House To Take Over Grill 454

Miller's Ale House is looking to take over the space occupied by the former Grill 454 in Commack, hoping to fill the desires of some local residents. 

Miller's Ale House went before Smithtown's Board of Zoning Appeals on Tuesday night seeking a special exception for outdoor dining and four variances to move forward with plans to demolish the former Grill 454 and construct a new restaurant off Veterans Highway and Sunken Meadow Parkway.
