Costa de Espana Announces on Facebook it's Closing its Doors

On Tuesday, messages appeared on the Twitter and Facebook accounts for announcing that the restaurant will be closing its doors after more than 28 years serving the village of Port Jefferson.

At around 12:30 p.m. the restaurant issued this heartfelt statement to its fans:

It is with a HEAVY HEART that we announce thar after 28 1/2 years in Port Jefferson, Costa de Espana will be opening its doors to you for the last time this Sunday, March 25, 2012.

We would like to THANK EACH & EVERY ONE of YOU from the bottom of OUR HEARTS for your Loyalty & Friendship for all of these years..

YOU are All our Family & ALWAYS WILL BE!

We Cannot THANK YOU ENOUGH for All the LAUGHS ( there have been soooo many!), All the tears, the Great times & the sad times & ALL the IRREPLACEABLE MEMORIES THAT WE WLL TREASURE FOREVER!!!!!

So from All of Us at Costa (past & present) we say this bittersweet goodbye (for now), We will Miss you all terribly... And With LOVE..... THANK YOU!

Lindsey Myers, the social media officer for Word Hampton Public Relations, said that with the media world the way it is today, it's not unusual for a business to make big announcements on social media although she usually advises her clients to utilize a full circle approach when broadcasting any kind of news whether it's a going out of business sale or a daily special.

"Social media is just another tool," Myers said. "While a very powerful tool, everyone likes to get their news differently and we want to reach them in whatever media they feel comfortable with.”

She says she advises clients to use social media along with press releases, in-store advertising, word of mouth and email blasts.

At the time of the writing of this article there were no other announcements that the restaurant is closing besides the Twitter and Facebook posts. The restaurant's website doesn't mention that it's closing and no one has returned emails or phone messages to confirm the news.

Immediately after Costa de Espana's Facebook post went up, people began writing comments on its page responding that they will miss the restaurant and looking to reserve one last meal there.

"Wow, I had no idea," wrote Michelle Gothardt. "So sad to hear this. I will do my best to make it to you before Sunday. Are you completely booked?"

The restaurant posted that they're not booked up yet but suggested people call to make reservations.

"We will miss you," posted JoAnna Elizabeth.

And Michelle Gothardt said that Costa de Espana has been one of her favorite restarants in Port Jefferson to share a meal with friends.

"You will be dearly missed," she wrote. "Thank you for you delicous food and wonderful service."
