Over $130,000 Raised At Freezin' For A Reason In Mount Sinai On Saturday

Nearly 600 took the plunge at Cedar Beach for the Town of Brookhaven and Special Olympics New York.

MOUNT SINAI, NY — Nearly 600 people raised over $130,000 at the 13th annual “Polar Plunge: Freezin’ for a Reason” sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven and Special Olympics New York at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Saturday.

Councilwoman Jane Bonner, who led the “Frozen Eagles” team, raising $2,750, lauded Special Olympics New York for making the plunge a success and I thanked all the plungers, volunteers, police, first responders, and town employees "for helping the athletes achieve their dreams."

She also gave a "big thank you" to all "who made donations to support this great organization.”

The Special Olympics' Long Island region has 4,000 athletes training and competing year-round in 22 Olympics-style sports. Athletes and their families or caregivers are never charged to take part.
