Suffolk police say the gunman, who displayed a firearm before fleeing, remains unidentified as the investigation continues.

• Port Jefferson football players can join Rocky Point team after winning appeal (newsday.com) — Port Jefferson student-athletes just regained their chance to play varsity football this season after New York's education commissioner granted an appeal allowing them to join Rocky Point's team without losing playoff eligibility. Several Port Jeff players are already set to suit up, with practices at Rocky Point keeping them ready for upcoming games, including a matchup at Eastport-South Manor on Sept. 19.

• Suffolk County D.A.: Port Jefferson teen pleads guilty to crash that killed 73-year-old woman (tbrnewsmedia.com) — A Port Jefferson teenager has pleaded guilty in connection with a stolen-car crash on Middle Country Road that killed a 73-year-old driver and seriously injured a passenger. Prosecutors say Good Samaritans, including an off-duty officer, chased and detained the teen after he fled the scene, and toxicology tests later showed THC in his system.
