4 Rescued From Sailboat Stuck in Sands Point Waters

The sailboat lost power from the storm Friday night and was drifting towards rocks, police say.

Four people were rescued from a 32-foot sailboat in Sands Point waters Friday night after the thunderstorm caused the vessel to lose power, police say.

According to authorities, the sailboat lost power in Half Moon Bay during the storm and was drifting east towards the shore while getting dangerously close to the rocks at 7 p.m.

Marine Bureau officers responded to the scene and were able to hook the vessel and tow it to safer waters until the Sea Tow arrived and towed the vessel to Manhasset Bay.
