Artist Exhibit, Reception at Port Washington Library Saturday

Photographer Anne Finkelstein will exhibit her Interiorscapes through April 30 in the Port Washington Public Library’s Martin Vogel Photography Gallery. You can meet the artist at a reception on Saturday at 3 p.m.

A native New Yorker, Finkelstein received a BA in painting from Bard College and an MFA in painting from Hunter College. According to the library, her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows throughout the United States, and is included in private and public corporate collections, including the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York and The David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. She teaches at Parsons and FIT and runs AJ& J Design, a graphic design company which specializes in graphics for museums and other public institutions (they produced the library’s 120^thanniversary display).

“The goal of my artwork is to combine images from different viewpoints into a harmonious whole," Finkelstein writes. "My photo-montages start with photographs of architecture. They reflect a mental landscape — the ability of the mind to hold many images simultaneously and blend them together seamlessly. The result is a densely textured surface which fluctuates between abstract patterns and recognizable spaces. My subjects come from places I travel and the streets I walk down every day in New York City. I try to create images which are more than a representation of what the world looks like. I want my compositions to lead the viewer on a journey which triggers memories of the experience of perception, including the contradictions between what we actually see, what we know, and what we remember.”
