Artists Flourish in Retirement

After decades of raising their families and working, seniors find inner talents that some didn't know they had.

Many of the students in the art class at the Port Washington Adult Activities Center had never painted or drawn before enrolling for the weekly class. Yet, the talent in the weekly class taught by professional artists and art instructors Barbara Silbert and Barbara Stein is quite remarkable. The class allows students to learn at their own pace and explore different media. Whether they choose to sketch with pencils or charcoal or paint in watercolor or acrylic, each student continues to grow their skills in a pleasant setting among friends.

Throughout the month of November, artwork from the students and instructors of the Monday morning art class will be on display on the walls outside of the Hagedorn Meeting Room on the upper level of the Port Washington Public Library. On Thursday, November 7, the Activities Center is hosting an art reception from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and instructors and students will be on hand to discuss the class and answer any questions about the class and the Adult Activities Center in general.

If you or someone you know are interested in learning about the art class or the variety of other programming offered at the Activities Center, please call Executive Director Linda Livio at 883-6656.
