Auditions for Stagecoach Radio Play at Landmark on Main Street
Dates for auditions are June 22 and June 24 for a performance at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater, Landmark on Main Street on Sept 24
Announcing auditions for Stagecoach, a radio-play adaptation of the classic 1939 film, to be held on Thursday, June 22, 7-9 PM and Saturday, June 24, 9-11 AM at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater, Landmark on Main Street, 232 Main Street, Port Washington.
This “old-time radio”-style production will include period commercials and songs between acts, performed by members of the cast, so singing as well as non-singing actors will be cast. There is also a need for some very versatile actors who can deliver distinctive voices for multiple characters. In all, the cast is expected to include six men and three women. Sides will be provided at auditions. If you wish to audition as a singer, please prepare 16 bars, preferably mid-tempo Western or 1930s-40s standard; an accompanist will be provided.

Performance will be Sept. 24 and will be recorded before a live theater audience for later broadcast. Rehearsals will be on the evenings of Wed., Sept 6; Wed. Sept.13; and Tues., Sept. 19; technical rehearsal Sat. morning, Sept. 23. Stagecoach, the motion picture, was directed by John Ford and starred Claire Trevor and John Wayne in his breakthrough role. It is the story of a group of people from very different backgrounds who are thrown together for a perilous journey on an Overland stage in the untamed Arizona Territory of 1875. The themes of what Ford called his “romance of the West” are eternal: courage and integrity, compassion and redemption. The radio-play script is based on the NBC Theater coast-to-coast radio broadcast of Jan. 9, 1949, as well as the 1939 film, which was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two Oscars, for musical score and best supporting actor.
This is a volunteer community theater production. The format will be similar to a staged reading of a play; performers will work to microphones with script in hand, accompanied by live music and sound effects.
