PORT WASHINGTON, NY—A blood drive for aplastic anemia awareness will be held in memory of Brittany Barron next week in Port Washington, her family announced.

Barron was in third grade at Guggenheim Elementary School when she died of aplastic anemia, a non-malignant failure of the bone marrow. Brittany required many blood transfusions during her illness; patients facing the same situation need over 800 pints of blood each day.

The blood drive honoring Brittany's memory will be held at Landmark on Main Street, located at 232 Main St., on Tuesday, July 2 from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
