Boat Fire Victim Was Prominent Figure in Port Washington Community

Former NYPD captain who once served as Plandome mayor wrote regularly for the Port Washington News.

A prominent resident on the Port Washington peninsula was the victim of Wednesday’s deadly boat explosion, multiple sources said.

A retired NYPD captain, Bob Hogan was the former mayor of Plandome and also wrote regularly for the Port Washington News.

Many who didn’t already know Hogan had the chance to meet him in 2010 when he made an unsuccessful bid for Port Washington police commissioner. The affable figure was also a member of the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums.

He was a Renaissance man,” Brian Coughlan, the society’s band master, told Newsday. “He had a lot of different interests and he excelled in all of them. It’s a terrible loss not just to the band but for the guys who will never have the opportunity to know him.”
