Buses To Replace Overnight LIRR Service On Port Washington Branch

Anyone taking the train Friday night into Saturday morning should keep this in mind.

Buses will replace overnight Long Island Rail Road service between Port Washington on Saturday morning while crews perform routine track work, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says.

Buses will replace four overnight trains traveling in each direction at Manhasset, Plandome and Port Washington between 1 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The timing of this work was scheduled to inconvenience the fewest number of customers possible, the MTA says.

The track inspections ensure the safety and reliability of the tracks, the MTA says. The tests will be performed using a specialized diagnostic car fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment and is designed to detect and repair internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye.
