Participating restaurants will offer specially curated prix fixe menus at $21 for a 2-course lunch and either a $35 or $48 3-course dinner, giving you the perfect opportunity to explore new tastes and revisit your favorite local spots.

Sands Point Preserve

Join Hildur Palsdottir for an evening of nature-based mindfulness and meditation on the first Thursday of every month. Classes will be held in the beautiful rooms of the Preserve’s mansions, or in the Hempstead House Garden when weather permits.
With these sessions we will explore techniques specifically aimed at stress reduction. With kind curiosity Hildur adapts ancient Buddhist teachings to modern applications for calming the mind. Meditation practice helps us become aware of our thoughts and better manage our moods. With transformative practices you will access wisdom and clarity to live a more compassionate life. Regular meditation practice can improve attention and focus and supports a better outlook on life. In addition to facilitating these monthly groups, Hildur will offer support with establishing a home meditation practice. No feeling is final. Join us in becoming one with the flow of experience.
Chairs will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring a meditation cushion, pillow or mat.Admission (includes parking and all fees):Members: $17 per class Non-Members: $25 per classABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Hildur Palsdottir is a certified meditation instructor, Reiki Master Teacher and the co-founder of<a href="https://www.sol.center/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Sol Center</a>, a nature-based healing arts center in Port Washington. She works as a natural resource educator with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Nassau, and guides after school nature appreciation classes at the Sands Point Preserve. She feels passionate about rewilding, ecosystem restoration and care for both our inner and outer nature.
Hildur practices meditation with Lama Willa and Lama Liz at the Natural Dharma Fellowship (NDF) and coordinates NDF EcoDharma program. She sits on the advisory board at the<a href="https://centerforearthethics.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Center for Earth Ethics</a>, whose mission it is to facilitate a viable value system based on protecting the rights of nature and all people. Hildur is a co-founder of<a href="https://www.rewildlongisland.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;ReWild Long Island</a>, steering committee member of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.transitiontownpw.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Transition Town</a>&nbsp;Port Washington and President of the Board of Trustees at The<a href="https://www.smli.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">&nbsp;Science Museum</a>&nbsp;of Long Island. She contributes to an environmental column Earth Matters in the Island Now newspaper.

The morning of May 9th will be a busy one at Baxter’s Pond!&nbsp; Please join the Baxter's Pond Foundation (BPF)&nbsp;at 9 am for a Clean Up Event to pick up litter, do some planting, and make our park beautiful. All ages welcome!&nbsp;&nbsp;Meet at the flagpole in comfortable clothing; gloves and garbage bags provided. At 10 am, the native-landscaping professionals from Spadefoot Design &amp; Construction will provide volunteers with hands-on training in how to maintain the new native plantings at Baxter’s Pond while keeping invasives from making a comeback. A new independent bookstore, Book RePort, will open its doors on May 15, 2026, bringing books, coffee, and community programming to the heart of Port Washington. Founded by local residents Mara Silverstein and Kathleen Schechter, Book RePort was created in response to the closure of a beloved neighborhood bookstore that once served as a gathering place for the community. What began as a shared desire among residents to bring a bookstore back to town evolved into a grassroots effort and, ultimately, into a new business built on that collective energy. “Book RePort is more than a bookstore,” said Silverstein. “It’s a space for connection, conversation, and community. We wanted to create a place where people feel welcome to spend time, discover books, and engage with one another.”The 1,500-square-foot store, located at 40 Main Street, will feature a curated selection of books for all ages, a small café serving coffee and tea, and a thoughtfully selected assortment of games, stationery, and gifts. The space will also host regular programming, including children’s storytime, book clubs for all ages, author events, community gatherings, and private events.
















Schechter, who brings a background in literacy and a deep passion for children’s literature, emphasized the importance of creating an accessible and engaging environment for young readers. “We want kids to feel just as much ownership of this space as adults,” she said. “Books can be a powerful way to build confidence, curiosity, and connection. As part of that commitment, we are launching our ‘Book RePorters’ program, a youth council for students in grades 3 and up that will empower our youngest leaders to help shape the books we carry.”









Book RePort is the only independent bookstore within approximately 15 miles and is positioned to serve not only Port Washington but also the surrounding communities. Located less than 45 minutes from Manhattan and one block from the train station, the store aims to become a destination for author events and literary programming.



Book RePort has demonstrated strong community support, with a base of founding members and a series of pre-opening events that have drawn audiences ranging from intimate gatherings to crowds of over 200 attendees.


A grand opening weekend is planned for May 15–17 and will include special events, programming, and opportunities for the community to experience the space.

Join us for the third year of our Wilderness Survival series! Ideal for beginners and seasoned enthusiasts alike, this series is led by survival enthusiast Mike Evans. Dive into essential survival skills, from emergency preparedness to advanced bushcraft techniques, exploring key concepts like the Rule of 3s and the 5 Cs. Perfect for those starting their journey or looking to deepen existing skills, these workshops offer a platform to learn, share experiences, and connect with a community passionate about self-sufficiency and nature.
These workshops are for adults, but children 14+ are welcome with an accompanying adult. Programs are held outdoors, so dress for the weather. Bring sturdy footwear, gloves and a hand towel to each event.

About the instructor:
