The morning of May 9th will be a busy one at Baxter’s Pond!  Please join the Baxter's Pond Foundation (BPF) at 9 am for a Clean Up Event to pick up litter, do some planting, and make our park beautiful. All ages welcome!  Meet at the flagpole in comfortable clothing; gloves and garbage bags provided. At 10 am, the native-landscaping professionals from Spadefoot Design &amp; Construction will provide volunteers with hands-on training in how to maintain the new native plantings at Baxter’s Pond while keeping invasives from making a comeback. Ecotherapy, also known as Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-Yoku, is the 
practice of connecting with Nature; of walking with Nature rather than 
through it. Certified guide Linda Lombardo leads monthly sessions of 
this relational practice that lowers cortisol, improves cognitive 
function, boosts your mood and energy, and most of all, grounds you so 
you are better prepared in your daily life to manage whatever might come
 your way.
The focus of Ecotherapy is on connection and relationship, allowing 
the heart to open to the beauty of the natural world, and at the same 
time, understand our belonging in that world.
Register for individual walks or a seasonal series of three walks for a discount.
Members: $45 per session / $120 for series of 3
Non-Members: $50 per session / $135 for series of 3

The Northwinds Symphonic Band will perform an indoor concert at Sands Point Preserve on Sunday, April 19 at 3pm entitled “Concert Band Classics and Virtuoso Artistry”.
Conductors Helen P. Bauer and Concetta Stevens invite you to enjoy a musical afternoon featuring musicians from the band who will impress with their virtuosity and captivate with their musicality.
Please join us for a wonderful afternoon of entertainment for the entire family. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds of the Preserve before the performance.

Time:&nbsp;3pm The concert will include one hour of music with a 15 minute intermission.

Professional artist <a href="https://www.m44art.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Michelle Shain</a> will demonstrate and guide you on basic watercolor techniques including composition, color mixing, layering and final details.
The workshop is designed for beginners but welcomes experienced 
artists who want to revisit the basics and have the opportunity to paint
 in a castle. We’ll paint the library, fireplace, windows, staircase, 
chandeliers and so much more.

About the instructor:
Paintbrush is in hand whenever Michelle is on the road, bus or train,
 or flying through the air. You might find her sketching in a 
restaurant, park bench, baseball stadium and definitely at a picnic. A 
graphic designer by trade and education, Michelle watched her mother 
paint in watercolor and learned old-school style: practice, practice, 
practice. Still studying today, Michelle takes a variety of painting 
classes to hone her craft. Her graphic design business now includes 
illustration and watercolor commissions of house and pet portraits, 
scenic, authors and illustrated maps. Michelle has taught several 
classes at The Art Guild and recently led her first week-long painting 
retreat in the Adirondacks. Another is planned for August 2026. Michelle
 has also created a painting group called <a href="https://www.instagram.com/suburban_sketchers_li/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Suburban Sketchers</a> that gathers, paints and shares every Tuesday afternoon. What Do Bagels Have to Do With Long Island Water? Free Earth Day Event in Port Washington Has the Answer
High school students lead a 20-minute TED-style talk and live community conversation on Long Island’s water sustainability under stress—plus free bagels for attendeesPORT WASHINGTON, NY — This Earth Day, local high school students are taking on one of Long Island’s most important challenges with a message that starts somewhere unexpected: the bagel.
Hosted by Residents Forward, the Youth Climate Action Project will present a fast-paced, TED-style talk titled “Save Water. Save The Bagel. A New York Problem.” In just 20 minutes, students connect what makes a New York bagel iconic—its water—to a deeper reality: Long Island’s water sustainability is under increasing stress.
The talk explores how decades of over-pumping, sea level rise, and inefficient outdoor water use are putting pressure on the region’s sole-source aquifer—and what that means for the future. Students will also present a clear, actionable plan to help restore balance, including a call to advance a regional “LI 2050 Groundwater Rebalance” initiative focused on long-term groundwater sustainability.
Following the presentation, students will lead a live, interactive conversation with the audience, creating a full one-hour program designed to engage residents, water suppliers, and local leaders in a shared dialogue about solutions.
The event aims to bring the community together around a critical question: how do we restore balance and protect Long Island’s water for the next generation?
