Join us the last Saturday of the month for a detailed tour of our c. 1690 Dutch Barn and learn about farm tools, shell fishing tools, wooden snow sleds, horse drawn sleighs, and see a crazy assortment of tools for almost every task. We'll meet at the side yard of the Sands-Willets House and walk back to the barn together. Tours last about an hour. 
No reservations necessary for individuals. Rain or shine.
Barn Tours: $10 pp; $5 for children &lt; 10. Members FREE.

For 10 years, our community walk event has brought together animal lovers, families, friends, and corporate teams to make a lifesaving difference. Now called Walk to Rescue, our mission remains the same: helping animals find loving homes.
Whether you walk with your dog, in honor of a beloved pet, or rally a team of friends and coworkers, every step taken and every dollar raised helps provide lifesaving care and brighter futures for animals in need.
All registered walkers receive our 2026 Walk to Rescue dog bandana!

The picturesque and serene Mill Pond we enjoy today was once a bustling center of cultural, economic and social activity. Join us for a historic walk around the pond to discover the first school, the first church, an early hotel, and characters who lived in this community. 
Where: Meet at the sitting area at the back of the pond next to the Model Yacht Club, across from the Dodge House. 
No reservations needed!

With volunteer numbers declining across the state, discover how you can make a meaningful difference and join the team—no prior experience necessary!
During the Open House, community members will have the opportunity to:

 <li>Tour fire apparatus and emergency vehicles</li>
 <li>Meet Port Washington firefighters and EMS personnel</li>
 <li>Try on firefighting protective gear</li>
 <li>See demonstrations of firefighting and EMS operations</li>
 <li>Learn about the training and experiences of volunteer members</li>
 <li>Speak with current members about what it is like to volunteer</li>
 <li>Learn how to become a member of the Port Washington Fire Department</li>
</ul>

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend. Families are welcome!

All are welcome at the Friends of the Library's Paperback Swap on Saturday, October 17,&nbsp; from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. in the PWPL's Lapham Meeting Room. At this event, patrons of ALL ages -- adults, teens, and children -- share thousands of books. You don't need to bring a book to take a book!
Please bring if you can:
--Gently used adult and teen paperbacks
--ANY children's books (paperbacks, hard covers or board books )
Please do not bring:
--Adult hard covers
--Books with loose pages, broken spines, water damage or mold
--Nonfiction books with outdated content (old travel guides, test prep, etc.)
Books accepted ONLY during the event hours; please do not leave books outside the library or in the lobby.&nbsp;
