George was Chairman of the English Department and a teacher of English, Integrated Studies and Gifted & Talented. George taught in the Port Washington school district for 37 years and was active in the Port Washington Teachers Association and, after his retirement, in the Port Washington Teachers Association Retired Educators Chapter.

Dr. Williams was instrumental in the restoration and preservation of many local buildings, areas and cemeteries including The Sands Cemetery, the Dodge Homestead and the Mill Pond Historic District, amongst many others. He was the Village of Port Washington North Historian, the Chairman of the Town of North Hempstead’s Landmarks Preservation Commission and was invaluable in getting the Landmark on Main Street named to the national Historic Register and in listing the Sands Willets House to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
